Demystifying the TIL-I: A Comprehensive Guide to Polytechnic of Turin's Engineering Entrance

Greetings Aspiring Engineers,

Are you eyeing a spot at the prestigious Polytechnic of Turin, a renowned hub for engineering excellence? Excellent choice! However, before donning your engineer's cap, let's delve into the intricacies of the TIL-I entrance test. No need for elaborate jargon; we're here to provide you with a clear understanding.

The Polytechnic Landscape

The Polytechnic of Turin stands as a global focal point for emerging engineers. Yet, to become a part of the esteemed PoliTo engineering community, one must successfully navigate the TIL-I entrance test.

Understanding TIL-I

Unlike institutions adhering to the CISIA TOLC format, the Polytechnics of Turin and Milan employ a distinct approach. If you are considering one of the 19 courses within the Polito engineering faculty – encompassing management, IT, biomedical, electronics, mechanics, civil, cinema, and more – you'll encounter the Test in Laib, or TIL-I. This time, set aside thoughts of TOLC-I; the spotlight is on mastering the TIL-I protocol.

Rest assured, our aim is not only to convey information but to serve as your guide through the Polytechnic of Turin's engineering entrance test.

Notable Features of 2023

The 2023 Polito admission test introduces several significant updates:

  1. Incorporation of "Basic Technical Knowledge" Section: This newcomer includes basic computer science and drawing & representation, complementing the existing sections of Mathematics, Reading Comprehension, Logic, and Physics.

  2. Absence of the English Section: Notably, the English section is omitted from the 2023 TIL-I.

  3. Multiple Test Sessions: Conducted from March to September, there are five TIL-I sessions. Candidates have the opportunity to attempt the examination thrice, with only the highest score considered.

Registration Procedures

TIL-I sessions for 2023 are scheduled for March, April, May, July, and August-September. Timely registration is imperative. In the event that a preferred session reaches capacity, candidates can opt for subsequent sessions, ensuring registration occurs before the final session in 2023.

Prospective candidates initiate the registration process using the university's platform, specifying their preferred engineering degree courses. Each attempt at the test incurs a registration fee.

TIL-I Structure: Subjects, Format, and Scoring

The TIL-I is meticulously structured, comprising 42 questions distributed across four sections, each demanding attention within a concise 1.5-hour timeframe:

  1. Mathematics (16 questions, 36 minutes)

  2. Logic and Reading Comprehension (10 questions, 20 minutes)

  3. Physics (10 questions, 22 minutes)

  4. Basic Technical Knowledge (6 questions, 12 minutes)

Scoring is straightforward:

  • 1 point for each correct answer

  • Zero points for unanswered questions

  • -0.25 points for each incorrect answer

The maximum attainable score is 100, with a minimum threshold of 20/100 for ranking consideration. To secure enrollment in the preferred degree course, a minimum score of 60/100 is recommended.
